One of Bangkok's oldest Ficus trees (Ficus concinna) is off Maha Rat Road in Silpakorn University near the Grand Palace. The girth of the tree, measured at a height of 1.30 m, is 9.84 m. The age of the tree is unknown, but it probably witnessed the time when France colonized the city in the 17th century. Locals seem to know its importance to their well-being.

The tree is protected even though it is in a busy part of downtown Bangkok. How long it will continue to survive is speculative as the tree is threatened by development and the city's air quality is among the world's worst.
