This tree is found in the Macquarie Pass, Blue Mountains, Australia. During the 2019–20 Australian bushfire season, the entire mountain range was engulfed in flames. According to preliminary reports, up to 80% of this World Heritage Area burned. We are not sure yet if this mature, unique tree survived the fires.

In spite one of the worst fires ever recorded in Australia, and in the face of more than one-billion animals lost, their government is ineffective in the fight against climate change. The tree is close to the Carrington Falls nature reserve shown in the image below. In 1836 Charles Darwin probably passed by this tree on his visit to the Blue Mountains during his epic voyage on the Beagle.
